The Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) men’s basketball team’s offseason continues with another substantial addition from the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC).
Dillard guard Bentravin Phillips is heading to play for the Gold Rush in their final Red River Athletic Conference season.
He joins two-time HBCUAC Player of the Year Jamal Gibson, who flipped from the University of New Orleans after previously committing in April.
Transferring to Dillard after playing two seasons in the NJCAA, Phillips averaged 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in 31 games.
The Lafayette native would be named the HBCUAC Tournament MVP after leading Dillard to its first conference championship since 2018.
Phillips culminated the HBCUAC championship game with 18 points, six assists, and three steals, hitting the go-ahead bucket to clinch the win.
Phillips will join his fourth team in four collegiate seasons, an XULA team that will transition to the Southern States Athletic Conference in 2026.
The Gold Rush is seeking its first conference championship since claiming the GCAC tournament in its final season in 2021.
