The Bowie State Bulldogs have entered the head coaching market after announcing they will not renew the contract of current coach Kyle Jackson.
“On behalf of [Bowie State] Bulldog Athletics, I want to extend out sincere gratitude to Coach Jackson for the meaningful impact he has made on our football program both as a player and as a dedicated coach over the last 11 years,” said Bowie State University Athletic Director Clyde Doughty. “We are grateful for his commitment to our student-athletes and the lasting contributions he leaves behind, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Coach Jackson has served as the head coach of the Bowie State Bulldogs for the last three seasons, including a year as interim head coach in 2022, following the dismissal of former coach Damon Wilson.
In his four seasons at BSU, he led the team to a 19-21 overall record, posting a 15-15 mark in conference competition.
In the four years before taking on the role as head coach, Jackson served in various roles on the Bowie State coaching staff, such as Defensive Coordinator, Linebackers coach, and Recruiting Coordinator.
Previous stops also include a stint as a Defensive Graduate Assistant at Emporia State in 2015 and the Director of Football Operations at Georgia State in 2014.
As a player, Jackson was a standout linebacker for Bowie State from 2007-2010, helping lead the Bulldogs to a CIAA championship game appearance in 2009.
“As we look ahead, we believe new leadership will best position the program for its next chapter of sustained excellence,” said AD Doughty. “We remain fully committed to investing in our football program and ensuring that our student-athletes and the next head coach have the resources and support needed to seize this opportunity.”
