Former Grambling standout, North Carolina A&T head coach Lee Fobbs passes away

Lee Fobbs, who played for Eddie Robinson and won a Celebration Bowl as an assistant coach with his son Broderick at Grambling, died Saturday at 75 years old, according to a report by KSLA 12 News Sports Director Chris Demirdijan.

Fobbs played for Robinson during the first two of five straight SWAC titles in 1971 and 1972, including a Black College National Championship in ’72. After that, he was drafted as a running back by the Buffalo Bills in the 1973 NFL draft but went on to play in the Canadian Football League that summer, winning the Gray Cup as a member of the Ottawa Rough Riders.

Following his playing career, Fobbs coached at the high school and collegiate level, including as head coach of North Carolina A&T from 2006 to midway through the 2008 season.

He served as running backs coach on his son Broderick Fobbs’ staff, helping the Tigers to the SWAC’s first Celebration Bowl win and Grambling’s 15th Black College National Championship in 2016.
