Edward Waters University has tapped Todd Day, the former NBA standout, to serve as interim men’s basketball coach.
Day, a first-round selection in the NBA Draft, enjoyed a productive professional career with stops at the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Todd Day to Edward Waters University,” said Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr., President & CEO of EWU in a statement. “His extraordinary pedigree—as a McDonald’s All American, SEC legend, NBA veteran, and proven collegiate head coach—represents a major moment for our athletics program. He understands what excellence looks like at every level and he brings a leadership philosophy grounded in discipline, accountability, and holistic student development.”

Day takes over at EWU for Cabral Huff after a successful stint at Philander Smith College (now Philander Smith University), where he steered the Panthers to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons in 2022–2023 and 2023–2024, capped by a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2024.
“I am honored and excited to join the Edward Waters University family,” Day stated. “EWU is a university on the rise with a proud athletic tradition. I look forward to working with our student-athletes, shaping a competitive environment, and building a program that reflects the excellence, pride, and mission of this great institution.”
