Southern has decided to move in a different direction with their football program.
Baton Rouge TV station WBRZ is reporting that Terrence Graves has been released as the Jaguars’ head coach and Fred McNair, who was serving as co-offensive coordinator, will be the interim head coach.
Southern is 1-6 on the year, following a 24-3 homecoming loss to Prairie View A&M.
Just earlier in the day Monday, Graves said during SWAC coaches’ media availability that he was head coach until further notice.
Graves led the Jaguars to an 8-5 record and the SWAC West title in his first full season as head coach, but Southern struggled out of the gate this year. Their lone win was a 34-29 triumph at Mississippi Valley State Aug. 30.
McNair previously was head coach at his alma mater Alcorn State, compiling a 48-33 record in seven seasons, including back-to-back SWAC West titles and Celebration Bowl appearances in 2018 and 2019.
