Top HBCU receiver hits reverse in the portal

One HBCU wide receiver who transferred to a rising program has decided to return to his roots.

According to Wali Pitt of HBCU Gameday, Armone Harris, who caught over 1,000 yards in passes for Clark Atlanta in 2024, is back at CAU after briefly committing to CIAA contender Johnson C. Smith this summer.

Harris caught 75 passes for 1,004 yards and 14 touchdowns as the Panthers advanced to the SIAC championship game under Teddy Keaton in his first year as head coach.

Harris committed in June to the Golden Bulls, who had their best start in over 50 years with an 8-0 mark in 2024. Unfortunately, two cruel losses – 27-0 at Fayetteville State and a 15-10 loss at Livingstone – kept JCSU from the CIAA championship game.

Harris was expected to pair with all-CIAA receiver Brevin Caldwell, running back Kamurro Edmonds, and Fort Valley State transfer QB Kelvin Durham to create the top air offense in the conference. Now Harris will look to repeat his 2024 success with a new quarterback at Clark, Zy McDonald, who transferred to CAU from HBCU national champion Jackson State.
