After leading Grambling State to NCAA tournament berth, Donte Jackson gets extension

Donte Jackson declared following their SWAC tournament championship win this past March that Grambling State was a basketball school.

After winning an NCAA tournament game in the school’s first ever appearance, the university agreed, extending Jackson’s contract through the 2028-29 season Friday afternoon.

“Coach Jackson is without a doubt one of the best basketball coaches in the country, and we are blessed that he’s the leader of our men’s basketball program,” GSU athletic director Trayvean Scott said in a statement released by the university. “He has taken our program to heights that haven’t been seen for decades, and we are confident that he will continue to be successful and mold our student-athletes into men who represent our institution the right way.”

Jackson led the Tigers to the SWAC championship and the biggest men’s basketball win in generations, an 88-81 overtime victory over Montana State in the NCAA’s First Four in Dayton, Ohio. Jackson is the second-winningest coach in school history, joining Grambling legend Frederick C. Hobdy as the only men’s basketball coaches in program history with 100 career wins or more.
