Alabama A&M football gets committment from FCS all-conference wide receiver

The Alabama A&M wide receiver group just got stronger after fielding a commitment from former All-SoCon wide receiver selection AJ Toney.

Toney began his college career at Samford, where he got off to a fast start, being named to the conference’s All-Freshman team in 2019.

He finished the year with 32 receptions for 289 yards and scored two touchdowns while also rushing for 53 yards on 12 attempts.

His numbers improved during the shortened 2021 spring season, warranting a selection to the All-SoCon Second Team.

Toney hauled in 41 receptions for 437 yards and a touchdown in seven games.

After playing the 2021 fall season at Samford, the all-conference receiver transferred to Middle Tennessee State, where he spent the last two seasons.

Toney’s time on the field in his two years at MTSU was limited due to injury, which forced him to miss 16 of a possible 25 games.

He comes to Alabama A&M looking to contribute to the turnaround of a Bulldogs team that finished the 2023 season with a 5-6 overall record.
