Alvin Parker named HBCU football coach of the year

Virginia Union head coach Alvin Parker was named the Black College Coach of the Year.

The Panthers’ head man was honored at the Black College Football Hall of Fame’s Induction ceremony last Saturday in Atlanta.

Parker led Virginia Union to a 10-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark within the CIAA en route to a conference championship for the second consecutive season.

The Panthers also advanced to the NCAA Playoffs, as they did in the previous season, but fell 38-14 to Kutztown University.

The Panthers were also among the best in the CIAA on defense, as they surrendered just 13.8 points per game and never allowed a single CIAA team to score more than 20 points.

Parker, who was also named CIAA Coach of the Year this season, has compiled a 40-13 overall record in his tenure at Virginia Union.
