Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh high on HBCU rookie

The Baltimore Ravens have opened minicamp up and a rookie from a nearby HBCU is making a name for himself in the eyes of John Harbaugh.

The Baltimore Ravens head coach was asked his early impressions of the former Morgan State defensive back on Saturday. He praised his highlight tape as well as his build and ability.

“He looked really good moving around,” John Harbaugh said. “He’s a big, strong guy and he moves well as a defensive back. He looked really good the last two days. I just think he’s a distinctive player whose got a high-level of ability. So we like those guys, especially from around here. There’s five really good programs in this area that we have a lot of respect for.”

Jordan Toles is a Baltimore native and a former two-sport standout at St. Frances Academy. He was ranked as a four-star prospect in football and a three-star prospect in basketball. He was listed as the fourth overall player in Maryland in the 2021 class and was the 11th-ranked safety in his class by 247Sports.

Toles played in six of the first seven games of the 2021 season, racking up six tackles against UCLA.

He hit the transfer portal ahead of the 2022 season, landing at Morgan State. He finished with 48 tackles (30 solo) forced two fumbles and came up with two fumble recoveries. He also blocked a kick and returned an interception 50 yards for a score.

Jordan finished the 2023 season as the Bears’ second leading tackler with 66 stops to go along with three interceptions (T-No. 36 in FCS) and a blocked kick. He was a finalist for the Aeneas Williams award, given to the top defensive back in Division I HBCU football. He was named Player of The Week four times during the season.

Toles went undrafted late last month, but signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent deal.
