HBCU football didn’t have any players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft for the second time in four years, but a handful of the top black college football players will get their shot at making the league as undrafted free agents and minicamp invitees.
The hard truth about the NFL Draft is that there aren’t enough picks to select all of the players who will ultimately make final NFL rosters. Roughly thirty percent of the league consists of undrafted free agents and these players often make up the core depth of teams in the NFL.
The biggest difference between an undrafted free agent and a player with a minicamp invite is that undrafted free agents will have signed contracts with the respective team. A minicamp invite is a tryout, with no signed contract between the player and team heading into camp.
All players at minicamp receive team-provided food, lodging, and a per diem. During preseason training camp according to the NFL collective bargaining agreement, first-year players receive $1,700 per week and veterans receive $2,900 per week in per diem.
Below is a list of HBCU football players who signed as undrafted free agents and minicamp invites, this post will update as players continue to receive invites up to the May 13 deadline when NFL rookie football development programs begin.
