Howard University Mourns Law Professor Kiah Duggins, Victim of Tragic Plane Crash

Howard University is grieving the loss of Kiah Duggins, a promising law professor who was among the victims of a devastating mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday evening.

The University President Ben Vinson III expressed profound sorrow, stating, “We ask for privacy and respect for Professor Duggins’ family, students, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

A Promising Legal Scholar and Advocate

Duggins had deep ties to Kansas, having been crowned Miss Butler County in 2014 and 2015. According to Larry Strong, her former pageant director, she was preparing to start her role as a law professor at Howard University this fall.

She earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she served as president of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, and held bachelor’s degrees from Wichita State University. Additionally, she completed a Fulbright grant in Taiwan. Throughout her legal career, she worked with the Civil Rights Corps, litigating against unconstitutional policing and money bail practices across various states.

Details of the Tragic Collision

The fatal accident involved an American Airlines flight carrying 64 people and a military helicopter. Officials have reported that no survivors are expected.

As Howard University and the broader community continue to mourn, Professor Duggins’ legacy as a scholar and advocate for justice remains a lasting inspiration.
